Island hopping in Greece looks simple when you see it online, but many travelers quickly realize it can become exhausting if not planned carefully. The biggest mistake people make is trying to visit too many islands in a short time.
A couple I spoke to planned to visit Santorini, Mykonos, and Crete within one week. They later said they spent more time packing, waiting, and sitting on ferries than actually enjoying the destinations. By the end of the trip, everything felt rushed.
A better approach is to choose one or two islands and stay longer. This gives you time to settle in, explore properly, and experience local life. On Santorini, for example, staying in Imerovigli instead of Oia gives you the same views but with fewer crowds and slightly better prices.
Many experienced travelers recommend islands like Naxos or Paros for a more balanced experience. They offer beautiful beaches, good food, and a relaxed atmosphere without the intense crowds of the more famous spots.
Ferry travel also requires planning. Delays can happen, especially during busy seasons or bad weather. Booking in advance helps, but leaving some flexibility in your schedule makes the whole experience much less stressful. Greece is best enjoyed slowly, not rushed from island to island.
